Lot Description
[WOUNDED KNEE]. A group of 4 photographs of General Nelson Miles and his staff at Pine Ridge Agency. Ca 1891.
4 photographs, including three boudoir sized views, and one larger image, approx. 5 1/2 x 7 1/2 in. mounted on larger cardstock. Images by S.D. Butcher and Trager's Northwestern Photographic Co. of Chadron, NE, with the company imprint on verso. These images were taken during the first two weeks of January, 1891, after Wounded Knee, showing General Nelson Miles and members of his staff.
Included is an important image of Nelson A. Miles and his officers sharing a meal inside a Sibley-style tent. -- Two slightly different views of General Miles and members of his staff, 13 January 1891, taken while Miles was the commanding general of the Division of the Missouri. -- General Miles and fellow officers on horseback.
