Lot Description

[INDIAN WARS]. A group of 21 cabinet cards of soldiers serving in the Dakotas, collected by Sergeant W.J. McDermott, 8th US Cavalry.

21 cabinet card portraits including 6 bearing Wimberly's Ft. Mead imprint, 6 bearing Eastman's Ft. Mead imprint, one bearing Putney's Leavenworth, KS imprint, one bearing Genelli's St. Louis, MO imprint, one bearing Holden's Luverne, MN imprint, and 6 uncredited.

Subjects include Sgt. Morton wearing a Sharpshooters medal and two other medals. -- "The Taff Kid Roy Walter" wearing a medal and horseshoe watch fob. -- A cavalryman identified as "Karuth" with a Springfield breech-loading carbine, gauntlets, cartridge belt, boots, and broad brimmed hat. -- Sgt. Kelly, Company D, 8th US Cavalry, shown with dress helmet, saber, Sharpshooter's collar medal, and additional medal. -- "Trumpeter Kimball" in civilian dress. -- A cavalryman identified as "Leadeier" of Company D, 8th US Cavalry, wearing his kepi with insignia, a medal on his breast, and holding his saber against the ground. -- A man identified as "McHugh" wearing two medals and a kepi with separate eagle and anchor insignia. -- And 14 others. -- Together, 21 cabinet card portraits.
