Lot Description

BARRY, David F. (1854-1934), photographer. Two cabinet cards of Curley, George Custer's Scout. Ca 1880s.

2 cabinet photographs on cardstock mounts, one with D.F. Barry's Bismarck and Standing Rock, D.T., imprint on verso, the other uncredited but also taken by Barry. Includes an oval bust photograph showing Curley in profile, wearing beaded necklaces, a large hoop earring in his right ear, and fur-wrapped braids, and a standing portrait that appears to have been taken during the same session.

Together, two portraits of Curley, a scout to George Custer and survivor of the Battle of Little Big Horn. The Crow scout was the first to report on the 7th Cavalry's defeat.
