Lot Description

[JACKSON, William Henry (1843-1942), photog.]. Five CDVs of Pawnee Indians, incl. Long Dog. Omaha, NE: Parker and Johnson, ca early 1870s.


5 CDVs on cardstock mounts, each with verso imprint of "Parker & Johnson, Successors to Jackson Bros., Omaha, Neb." Pawnee subjects include: Long Dog, staring directly into the camera, wearing a striped cotton shirt, blanket on his lap with tacked mirror attached, and single feather in his hair. -- Crow Eyes, a bare-chested man wearing two beaded chokers, his hand resting on his stomach. -- Unidentified Pawnee woman seated, with her hands folded. -- Provenance: Cowan's, American History, 19 June 2009, Lots 107, 108, and 109.
