Lot Description
[LINCOLN, Mary Todd (1818-1882)]. A photographic study of Mary Todd Lincoln in 8 CDVs.
8 CDVs of Mary Todd Lincoln, wife to Abraham Lincoln and First Lady of the United States from 1861-1865. The group is comprised of portraits of Mrs. Lincoln taken during various sittings before and after Lincoln's assassination, some with copyright dates of 1862 and 1865. Photographers/publishers include Mathew Brady, New York and Washington, DC (2), E. & H.T. Anthony, from Brady's photographic negatives, New York (3), William H. Mumler, Boston, MA (1), Wenderoth, Taylor & Brown, Philadelphia, PA (1, possibly a previously known pose). Also included is an uncredited image of Mary Todd Lincoln in mourning gown. This image of Mrs. Lincoln is typically attributed to 1862 when she was mourning the death of her son, Willie.
