Lot Description
[LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865]. [WARREN, Henry F., photographer]. CDV, last known photo of Lincoln. 6 March 1865.
CDV on thick cardstock mount, possibly dating from later in the 19th century. Lacking a studio imprint but known to have been taken by Henry F. Warren of Waltham, MA, on 6 March 1865.
The last known photograph of Lincoln, taken two days after his second inaugural speech. According to Hamilton and Ostendorf's Lincoln in Photographs, Warren used Lincoln's son, Tad, to coax the President out of the White House just two days after his second inauguration, on 6 March 1865. Warren made three negatives on 6 March 1865, one of which was lost, and they are believed to be the only photographs of Lincoln taken between his second inaugural and death. This pose is cataloged by Ostendorf as O-112 (pp. 214-215).
Estate of David O'Reilly, Old Bridge, New Jersey
