The name of the subject, when available, is written on the album page, above each photograph (not on the photograph itself). Multiple photographers/publishers are represented in the album, most notably Mathew Brady (New York), Whipple (Boston), Silsbee, Case & Co. (Boston), Black & Batchelder (Boston), and Disderi (France).

The centerpiece of the album is a CDV featuring the "Cooper Union" portrait of Abraham Lincoln, taken by Mathew Brady in New York on 27 February 1860, just one day prior to Lincoln delivering his famous address at the Cooper Institute (O-17). Verso with E. & H.T. Anthony/Brady imprint.
