[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. CDV album containing photographs of Mexican and European royalty, generals, and government officials, incl. Benito Juárez and his family.
Folio album, 6 1/4 x 9 in., containing 99 CDVs of Mexican and European royalty, politicians, military leaders, and civilians, ca early 1860s. Various photographers operating in Europe and Mexico are represented, including Levitsky, Hebert, Disderi, Cruces y Campa, Claudet, and others. The name of the subject, when available, is written on the album page, below each portrait.
The album, which appears to have been compiled during the early 1860s based on a few dates listed, features the following highlights: Napoleon III, French Emperor, his wife Empress Eugenie, and the Royal Family of France. -- King, Queen, and Royal Family of Spain. -- Benito Juárez, Mexican President and military commander, his wife, and daughters. -- General Tomás Mejía, a conservative general who was executed Emperor Maximilian I in Mexico. -- Miguel Miramón, former President of Mexico and conservative general who was executed with Maximilian I in Mexico. -- General Ignacio Zaragoza, Mexican army officer. -- Sir Charles Wyke. -- General Cotoner. -- And others.
