Lot Description

A Set of Four Chinese "Luohan" Needlework Panels, Guangxu Period
清光緒 金絲繡羅漢圖一組四件
Guangxu Period (1875-1908)

Worked in couched gold paper-wrapped and colored silk threads, framed and glazed. Originally likely from a Buddhist nun's robe, depicting two luohan mounted on goats (one goat with shimmering green, possibly from peacock feathers), one on a lion and another on a qilin.
Frames: Height 12 1/4 in., 31 cm. by width 9 1/4 in., 23.5 cm.
