Lot Description
[CHINESE WOODBLOCK PRINT] Beijing Jian Pu. Beijing: Rong Bao Zhai, 1958.
Six thread binding volumes in one blue case.
In December 1958, Rong Bao Zhai published the Beijing Jian pu in six volumes within one case, as a memorial to Zheng Zhenduo, who tragically died earlier that year in an airplane accident during his visit to the Soviet Union.
Originally titled Beiping Jianpu, the work was first compiled in 1933 by Lu Xun and Zheng Zhenduo, bringing together more than 300 examples of colored letter papers. The collection included designs by artists such as Qi Baishi, Wu Daiqiu, Wang Mengbai, Yan Bolong, Wang Shizi, and Chen Banding. The first edition was limited to 100 sets, of which Lu Xun retained 20 for himself, with most of the remainder gifted to friends. A further 100 sets were printed the following year.
The 1958 edition features a newly added preface by Xu Guangping, Lu Xun’s widow. Printed on Qingtanpi paper, with finely executed impressions and brilliantly applied colors.
