The larger example in the form of a folding fan, the cover lacquered in gold and laque burgauté depicting an outdoor scene with a pavilion underneath pine and Japanese maple trees, the interior and the underside nashiji, together with an inkstone and a silver water dropper; the smaller example in the shape of a round fan, the cover decorated in gold, red and green showing a pair of ho-oh birds standing opposed to each other enclosed by foliate sprigs, together with a brush and an ink cake.
