London: Chapman and Hall, 1839. New Edition, Complete (first one-volume octavo edition), early issue. 8vo. Extra-illustrated, with an etched vignette title-page and 39 etched plates by George Cruikshank (as called for), and with an additional suite of 40 hand-colored examples of the same (all uncolored plates first issue except "Greenwich Fair" and "The Last Cabdriver; all hand-colored plates later issue and without publisher's imprint), plus one hand-colored front wrapper from the monthly parts bound in at front; a note in the rear of the volume indicates that these plates were hand-colored by Dickens illustrator Frederick William Pailthorpe. Full maroon morocco, decorated in black and in gilt, rubbing to joints and extremities; all edges gilt; marbled endpapers; by Mansell; pictorial book-plate of English author Richard Adams on front paste-down, additional book-plate on same ("Blatner"); front wrapper mounted to sheet; a few plates with darkening along edges.
