London: Methuen & Company Limited, (1920). First edition thus. 4to. Illustrated with mounted color frontispiece and 31 mounted color plates by Hugh Thomson. Full crushed red levant, stamped in gilt, front board with multi-colored pictorial leather onlay depicting Hester Prynne and her daughter Pearl (after the plate facing p. 208: "What does this sad little book say, mother?); all edges gilt; gilt dentelles; marbled endpapers; by Bayntun (Riviere).
A near-fine and handsomely bound copy.
