[Entertainment] Allen, Jay Presson. Original Film Script for Cabaret

Los Angeles, California: ABC Picture Corp., ca. 1970-72. Original mimeographed script for the film adaptation of Cabaret, title-page noted in print "First Draft", with "6/10/70" in top right corner in print. 4to. ff. (i), 129. Original stiff beige wrappers, printed in blue; title-page with pencil notation "LIZA" in top right (presumably Liza Minelli).

Original screenplay for the musical film Cabaret, starring Liza Minelli and Joel Gray, and directed by Bob Fosse. Based on the 1939 Christopher Isherwood novel, Goodbye to Berlin, and the 1966 Broadway play by John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Joe Masteroff (itself based on the 1951 play by John Van Druten, I am a Camera).

The film was a smashing commercial success upon its release, grossing more than $42 million against a budget of under $5 million. It was also a critical success, winning eight Academy Awards, including Best Director (Fosse), Best Actress (Minelli), Best Supporting Actor (Joel Grey), Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Original Song Score, Best Art Direction, and Best Sound.

This script was purportedly given to Roland Shaw, the music arranger and orchestrator on the film set, and it is believed to have been used by Liza Minelli during filming.

This lot is located in Philadelphia.
