ESTC T72424; Alston III 18; Maslen & Lancaster, Bowyer Ledgers, 234.
Rudiments of Grammar for the English-Saxon Tongue was the last work to be published by pioneering Anglo-Saxon scholar Elizabeth Elstob, and marks the first grammar book to translate Old English into a modern tongue. The work was primarily funded by Mary Astell, a noted author and philosopher in her own right who is considered to be "the first English feminist," and is notable for its second half rebuking author Jonathan Swift for his dismissive attitude towards the Anglo-Saxon language; evidence suggests that this later caused Swift to reconsider his views.
