Cambridge: University Press, 1950. First edition, one of 750 unnumbered copies. 4to. (ix), (93) pp. Illustrated with 8 plates bound at rear. Author's own copy, initialed on half-title "29 March 1950 E.P.G." Salmon-colored cloth, stamped in gilt, corners bumped; mailing envelope mounted to rear paste down containing original printed advertisement for Goldschmidt lectures, and other ephemera.

Brown cloth, stamped in gilt, cocked, boards lightly soiled, extremities lightly worn, rear gutter starting; offsetting to prelims; separation at gutter at pp. 130-1; dust-jacket wanting.
