Lot Description
[Autographs & Manuscripts] Lear, Edward. Autograph Letter, signed
Villa Tennyson, Sanremo, Italy, no date. Three-page autograph letter on bifolium, signed by Edward Lear ("Edw Lear") to his friend, Lady Mary Wyatt, discussing his recent health issues, the dispersal of his collection of sketches, etc. Creasing from old folds; scattered soiling.
Lear writes from his villa in Sanremo, Italy, to Lady Mary Wyatt, his friend and patron, describing his recent health woes that plagued him that winter, while also noting his efforts to disperse his large collection of sketches (30,000), of which he promises to send some to her, pending him regaining his mobility. He ends his letter with a postscript noting that he sent her his last "Nonsense" poem.
