Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Sixth plate daguerreotype of a man by Nathaniel JAQUITH.
Sixth plate bust portrait of a bearded gentleman wearing a rather tall top hat and coat. (Tarnishing to edges, clouding effect between glass and plate; original seals.) Housed in a fully separated leatherette case (split at spine, surface wear/loss). Brass mat stamped "JAQUITH / 98 B. WAY."
Nathaniel Jaquith (also spelled Jacquith) was active in New York City from 1849-1860, and was listed at the address stamped on the brass mat here from 1849-1857. In 1857, he moved to 167 Broadway, and remained there until 1860.
