Lot Description
[WESTERN AMERICANA]. 3 tintypes of armed subjects, incl. frontiersman, soldier, and cowboys.
4 3/4 x 3 1/4 in. tintype, full-standing view of a curious fellow, possibly a frontiersman, sporting a long beard, wearing a fur cap/headdress. He poses before a simple studio backdrop comprised of a white canvas, holding a Winchester 1873 Saddle Ring carbine in one hand (slightly soft in focus, but very good overall). -- 3 3/8 x 2 3/8 in. tintype of two rough-and-tumble cowboys standing side by side in a studio setting, wearing wide-brimmed hats and fringed shirts. The character at left has a Starr Model 1863 single action percussion revolver tucked in his belt, possibly a studio prop. The subject at left is shown with an indiscernible pistol tucked in his belt (few light bends in plate). -- 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 in. tintype of a mustachioed man seated in a studio setting wearing an unusual hat and trousers with a wide strip down the side, suggesting that he may have served as a sergeant during the late Indian Wars. He is shown with a Smith and Wesson No. 3 revolver tucked in a holster attached to his belt (few light bends in plate).
