Lot Description
[POLITICS]. "Wide Awake 1860, Hartford Veterans." Possible Harrison presidential campaign ribbon.
7 1/4 x 2 3/8 in. silk ribbon featuring an illustration of an all-seeing eye near the top, surrounded by the legend, "Wide Awake / 1860 / Hartford Veterans." Undated, ca last quarter 19th century.
The ribbon references the Wide Awakes, the paramilitary group which supported Lincoln in his 1860 campaign. Benjamin Harrison used this in his campaign to in order to appeal to Union veteran voters.
