Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Assorted cased images of pairs and trios of sitters.

Half plate landscape-oriented ambrotype portrait of three young ladies. (Some loss to emulsion/lacquer, spotting and oxidation to mat.) Housed under mat, glass, and preserver only, no case. -- Sixth plate tintype portrait of a grizzled, unruly-haired father with his two daughters, posed affectionately. (Few dents and scratches to plate, spotting to mat.) Housed under mat, glass, and preserver only, no case. -- Ninth plate oval tintype portrait of a mother and child, the mother wearing a bonnet and cross necklace. Pencil inscriptions to case interior read, "Emilia A Wheat & Henry A Wheat 1859. Geneva N.Y. / 'Chippie' Emilia A Wheat May 29th 1860." (Image rather crisp, few imperfections.) Housed in an oval green velvet push-button case (wear and loss to velvet). -- And 23 other images, including 2 "side-by-side" couples comprising individual portraits of each spouse housed in the same case, and one image housed in case with velvet pad stamped for artist E. Garrett of Wilmington, DE. Some without cases. Conditions vary. -- Together, 26 assorted daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes.
