Engraved frontispiece portrait of Dickens by Finden after Maclise (without Chapman and Hall imprint), and 39 engraved plates by Hablot Knight Browne ("Phiz") (the first two of four plates in the first state). (Wear in lower gutter at title-page, scattered light spotting and toning.) Full tan calf, red and green morocco spine labels, stamped in gilt, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, stamp-signed by Riviere & Son.
