HOBBES, Thomas (1588-1679). Elements of philosophy, the first section, concerning body... now translated into English... To which are added Six lessons to the professors of the mathematiques. London: R. & W. Leybourn for A. Crooke, 1656.
Part one (of 2) only, small 4to (222 x 159 mm). 13 engraved folding plates, woodcut initials. (Without initial blank, small hole in a3 with minor loss, some worming to top and inner margins, some marginal browning, dampstaining to final 35 leaves and 3 plates.) Later 19th century sheep (covers a bit skewed, some staining).
FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH of the first part of Hobbes' Latin treatise "De Corpore," which was originally published in 1655. Macdonald & Hargreaves 56; Wing H2232.
