UKERS, William H. (1873-1945). All About Tea. New York: The Tea and Coffee Trade Journal Company, 1935.
2 volumes, 8vo. Numerous illustrations. Original gilt-lettered green cloth; DUST JACKETS (spines toned with some chipping at ends, light dampspotting). Provenance: Dr. Don B. Blanchard (gift inscription: "In found remembrance of the 'Fight for Freedom Expedition' to New York City. From the Padillas Gang. P.S. This book was found in a Chinese antique 'shop' near Mott St.").
FIRST EDITIONS OF THIS AUTHORITATIVE WORK ON THE SUBJECT. William H. Ukers was a pioneering figure in the tea and coffee industries. As a young editor at The Spice Mill, the in-house magazine of the Jabez Burns coffee company, he proposed transforming it into an independent trade journal. When his idea was rejected, he quit and founded The Tea and Coffee Trade Journal in 1901, which became the industry standard for over a century.
His seminal works, All About Coffee (1922) and All About Tea (1935), remain foundational texts, combining historical analysis, trade insights, and global travel research, covering topics from cultivation to cultural impact. All About Tea was later condensed into The Romance of Tea (1936), which was reissued in 2017 with annotations by tea expert James Norwood Pratt. RARE IN THE ORIGINAL DUST JACKETS.
