3 volumes, comprising: text, 2 volumes, 8vo; atlas 4to. 12 plates, including title-vignette and 3 folding maps and plans. ORIGINAL PRINTED WRAPPERS, UNCUT (toning to endpapers, some occasional spotting); slipcased together.

FIRST FRENCH EDITION. An account of the Russian Mission through Mongolia and China and residence in Peking from 1820-1821. Edited by Julius von Klaproth (1783-1835) and J. B. B Eyries (1767-1846). An English edition, probably translated from the French, was published the same year. Of significant interest is the atlas volume, which includes a large plan of the Forbidden City, the first to be published in a Western book. Cordier Sinica 2474; Lust 551; Morrison II, 255.
