Lot Description
CHURCHILL, Winston Leonard Spencer, Sir (1874-1965). Typed letter signed ("Winston Churchill") to Desmond Flower, London, 19 July 1951.
One page, small 8vo (171 x 121 mm), upper left corner perforated, matted and framed with a black and white portrait of Churchill, unexamined out of frame, overall 16 x 13 in.
In this letter, Churchill writes to publisher Desmond Flower of Cassell's, "Thank you for your letter of July 4. I am sorry to hear of the week's delay in the publication date of Volume IV. I am sure the book will be a great success." Churchill refers to his six-volume work The Second World War, published by Cassell between 1948 and 1953, with the fourth volume released in 1951. His prediction proved accurate, as the series won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953.
