[FLAGS-POLITICS]. 37-star "Grant & Colfax" campaign parade flag. 1868.
16 x 25 in. silk flag printed in red, white, and blue, 37 stars configured around a black and white portrait of U.S. Grant, which is based on a photo by Gutekunst and engraved by J.C. Buttre when Grant was a lieutenant general. Legend on white stripe, "Grant & Colfax." Matted and framed, 16 x 25 in.
RARE: A larger variant of the 37-star "Grant & Colfax" silk campaign flag referenced in Collins, Threads of History as figure 345 (See p. 177).
