Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. CDV of a photographer's tent reading "AMBROTYPES," with the likely photographer and an officer standing just outside. Alexandria, VA: Gorman & Jordan, ca 1864.
CDV on cardstock mount with paper label affixed to verso crediting the image to "Gorman & Jordan, Army Photographers," with the month designation "Jan" inked between "Negative taken" and "1864," both in print.
Pictured here is a large tent with sizeable banner draped on the front reading, "Ambrotypes," and two men posed standing outside. One is a bearded gentleman wearing a civilian suit and hat, while the other is a uniformed officer wearing shoulder straps with indecipherable rank devices and what appears to be a V Corps badge on his coat. Two large logs are placed just outside of the tent, and in the background to the viewer's left are a few log structures and horses/cattle.
Estate of David O'Reilly, Old Bridge, New Jersey
