Lot Description
Three Excavated Civil War Artillery Shells: CS Read, 3.8" Hotckiss Bolt and an Armstrong with a Replica Whitworth Bolt
American Civil War
1) Dug CS Read Shell. Nominally 7.5" tall and 2.85" in diameter.
2) Dug 3.8" Hotchkiss Bolt. Nominally 7" tall and 3.7" in diameter. Incomplete, missing the bottom and exposing the inner chamber that was needed to move the balance point of these shells so they would fly true.
3) Armstrong Shell. Nominally 6.5" tall and 3.3" in diameter. Disarmed and empty. With screw in fuse holder and wooden replica "fuse".
4) Reproduction 2.75" Whitworth Bolt. Nominally 9" tall and 2.9" in diameter.
This lot includes three wooden shell display stands.
