Three Excavated Civil War Era Artillery Shells Including Schenkl and Hotchkisses
American Civil War
1) Dug 6 Pound Rifled Gun Schenkl Case Shot. Nominally 8.75" in length and 3.5" in diameter. Disarmed and empty.
2) Dug 3" Hotchkiss Shell. Nominally 7" in length and 2.9" in diameter. White painted label indicates the shell was recovered at Brandy Station.
3) Dug 3" Hotchkiss Shell. Nominally 5.75" in length and 2.9" in diameter. Missing base cup. Disarmed and empty.
This lot also includes two wooden shell display stands and a cracked plastic tube to support the Schenkl for display upright.
