Lot Description

Composite Trapdoor Springfield Carbine

.45-70. 20" barrel. SN: 535442 (mfg. ca. 1892). Blued and color casehardened finish, iron furniture, walnut stock. Single shot breechloading composite carbine made from parts. Late production M1888 serial number, low arch breech with no legible markings. Lock is a M1864 Springfield lock dated 1864. Rear sight of M1873 pattern with incorrect mounting screws and graduated to 1,100 yards on the ladder. Solid buttplate with holes cut for cleaning rods concealed underneath. Front sight an incorrect ramped sight added to the barrel. No stacking swivel on single barrel band, smooth trigger, two-piece triggerguard, two click tumbler, saddle bar somewhat ill-fitting and may have been added to a shortened rifle stock. An interesting composite probably assembled by Bannerman and later used as a hunting rifle if the front sight is any indication.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
