Lot Description

Two 1894 Dated US Model 1892 Krag Rifle Bayonets with Type I and Type II Scabbards
Spanish American War

1) Rare Type I US Model 1892 Krag Bayonet & Type I Scabbard. 11.5" bright blade is dated 1894 on the reverse ricasso and marked US on the obverse. 16" in overall length with two piece smooth wood grips secured with two smooth, seamless rivets. Includes Type I scabbard with 360-degree rotational belt hook and with a slightly tapered trapezoidal scabbard throat that measures .260" at the wide end and about .230" on the narrower end. Only about 8,000 to 10,000 bayonets and scabbards were made of this pattern. The bayonet was originally blued, but that process was stopped and nearly all earlier blued bayonets were polished bright at some point during their service careers.
2) US Model 1892 Krag Bayonet & Type II Scabbard. 11.5" bright blade is dated 1894 on the reverse ricasso and marked US on the obverse. 16" in overall length with two piece smooth wood grips secured with two smooth, seamless rivets. Includes Type II scabbard with the rational stop pins to prevent 360-degree rotation and the wide wire belt keeper to go over a cartridge in a cartridge belt loop.
