Lot Description
Confederate Saber Bayonet & Scabbard Attributed to Leech & Rigdon with Cook & Brother Style Hilt
American Civil War
19.5" semi-Yataghan style blade, with a 13" fuller. Overall length 24.25". Crudely cast 4.75" brass hilt with 21 cast grasping grooves. Muzzle ring diameter is nominally .79" with a cock's comb quillon, lower portion of cross guard and lower quillon appear to be restored. The bayonet appears to have been intended for Enfield pattern rifles. Spring catch is a modern replacement. Blade appears to be repaired near the ricasso. The bayonet appears to be a restored relic or even dug example. Includes an old leather scabbard with aged modern brass mounts and an old leather frog.
