Lot Description

**W&C Scott & Son Imperial Premier 12 Gauge Shotgun with Travel Case

12 Gauge. 30.125" barrel length. SN: 74984. 2.625" chamber length. Full Chokes. Blued barrels and small parts with richly engraved casehardened frame and round knob semi-pistol grip stock composed of English walnut and featuring Fleur de Lis checkering to the wrist and forend. Double barrel side by side sidelock ejector shotgun featuring twin white bead sights on a matted barrel rib. Maker markings on the sideplates are relief engraved and read W.&C. SCOTT & SON, with the initials J.S.P. relief engraved on both sideplates, with further JSP initials inlaid in gold on the barrel rib, and engraved into the gold escutcheon on upper wrist. Watertables exhibit the grade marking The Premier Gun/W.&C. SCOTT & SON/MAKERS. Barrel address marking reads W.&C. SCOTT & SON The Imperial Premier/78 SHAFTESBURY AVENUE. LONDON. ENGLAND. Rear rib is engraved SCOTT'S/IMPROVED/BOLT near the dollshead. Shotgun features striking relief engraved oak leaves and acorns over a stippled ground enclosing game scenes, with floral embellishments over the barrel fences and lever. Game scenes include a pointer eyeing rising ducks to the left sideplate, with quail to the right. Nesting birds and woodcocks are engraved on the lower frame and triggerguard. Barrels and forend are engraved to match the frame. Shotgun mounts a red rubber recoil pad with leather butt. Comes in a restored vintage leather bound travel case with a maroon velvet interior. Included in the case are two snap caps, an oiler, and a wooden handled chamber brush. Also included is a letter from the consignor describing the history of this shotgun, and affirming that the initials J.S.P. were engraved at the factory for its first owner. Further enclosed with this shotgun are, a copy of J.A. Crawford and P.G. Whatley's, The History of W.&C. Scott Gunmakers, Rowland Ward: Bruton Street Ltd., 1991., a reprint of the 1922 Webley & Scott Ltd. catalog, as well as a wealth of printed articles describing the history of W.&C. Scott & Son. 14.5" length of pull. 1.625" drop to comb. 2" drop to heel. 7.02 lbs weight. {C&R}
