Lot Description
US Model 1860 Naval Cutlass by Ames with Scabbard
American Civil War
26" slightly curved single-edged blade with 18.5" median fuller. Blade 1.2" wide at ricasso. Overall length 32" with a 5.75" hilt. Riveted sheet brass basket guard, Phrygian helmet pommel cap, grooved wood grip. Obverse ricasso dated 1862. Reverse ricasso with weak Ames "Scroll" mark. Upper face inside guard is stamped with the rack number 9M/868. Includes correct riveted leather scabbard with brass frog button. Face of scabbard stamped with two rack numbers 22? (third number illegible) over 759. A solid example of a Civil War US Naval Cutlass with a relatively nice scabbard.
