Massachusetts Marked Ames Model 1832 Heavy Artillery Saber & Scabbard Dated 1839
Mexican American War

19.125" double edged wasp waisted blade with 10.25" primary median fuller and two 3.75" secondary fullers. 25.125" in overall length. 6" cast brass hilt with fish scale grip. Reverse ricasso marked with a {Spread Winged Eagle}/N.P. AMES/SPRINGFIELD. Obverse ricasso marked UNITED/STATES/1839/WS. Obverse guard with MS mark for Massachusetts ownership. Face of guard with WS sub-inspection and MPL/ORD final inspection from Ordnance Officer Mann Page Lomax. Includes the brass mounted leather scabbard.
