Fine LG&Y Contract US Special Model 1861 Rifle Musket
American Civil War
.58 caliber. 40" barrel secured by three rounded screw clamping barrel bands. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, full-length walnut musket stock. Single shot percussion muzzleloading rifle musket with M1861 three leaf rear sight, Barleycorn combination front sight and socket bayonet lug, sling swivels and straight shank tulip head ramrod. Lock marked in three lines forward of the hammer U.S./L.G-& Y./WINDSOR-VT. and dated 1864 at the tail. Flat faced bolster with a {Spread Winged Eagle}. Dated 1864 on the top of breech. Standard V/P/{Eagle Head} proofs on breech. A pair of crisp script cartouches are present on the counterpane, the GDS of Granville D. Shattuck and a not fully decipherable one that appears to start with an "A" and end with an "H" or "K". {ANTIQUE}
