Colt Contract US Special Model 1861 Rifle Musket
American Civil War

.58 caliber. 40" barrel. NSN. Bright finish, steel furniture, full-length walnut musket stock with convex screw tensioned barrel bands. Single shot muzzleloading percussion rifle musket with 1861 pattern three-leaf rear sight, Barleycorn combination front sight and socket bayonet lug, sling swivels and straight shank tulip head ramrod. Lock marked U.S./COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD, CT forward of the hammer and dated 1863 to the rear. Breech with matching 1863 date and standard V/P/{Eagle Head} inspection marks. Counterpane with correct script DAP and JT cartouches. Sub-inspection marks throughout as it typical of Colt contract rifle musket. A lovely example of one of the few Civil War era long arm patterns produced by the famous Colt firearms company. {ANTIQUE}
