Lot Description
Triplett & Scott Kentucky Contract Carbine
American Civil War
.50 rimfire. 22" barrel secured by a single solid, spring retained barrel band. SN: 1811. Blued and color case hardened finish, iron furniture, smooth walnut stock and forend. Twist action breechloading carbine with a 7-shot magazine in butt of stock with folding leaf adjustable ladder rear sight, dovetailed blade front sight and sling swivels on the barrel band and in stock toe and comb. Markings include Triplett & Scott patent marks on upper tang, Meriden Manufacturing Co. address marks on left of frame, and "KENTUCKY" on left of breech block. Tiny block letter "Y/W.B." mark stamped in reverse butt near buttplate. These carbines were manufactured from 1864-1865 and feature an unusual twist action that rotates the breech more than 180-degrees clockwise to come in line with magazine protruding from buttstock. 5,000 of these carbines were contracted for use by the Kentucky militia troops during the Civil War. Needs some mechanical attention. {ANTIQUE}
