Kittredge & Co Marked Wesson Two Trigger Military Style Rifle
American Civil War
.44 Rimfire. 24" octagon barrel. SN: 4214. Blued and color casehardened finish, no forend, smooth walnut butt with crescent buttplate. Single shot breechloading tip down barrel carbine double trigger system, the forward releasing the barrel to tip down, mounted with an L-shaped leaf rear sight, dovetailed front sight, sling swivels under barrel and in stock toe and a finger rest triggerguard extension. Top of barrel marked F. WESSON'S PATENT/OCT. 25, 1859 NOV. 11, 1862. Barrel additionally marked B. KITTREDGE & CO./CINCINNATI. O. The Kittredge company acquired at least 2,100 and probably more like 3,000 to 4,000 of these rifles for sale to various states during the Civil War, with 760 sold to Indiana, 1,366 sold to Kentucky, with additional guns sold to Ohio, Missouri and Kansas. Action needs some mechanical attention.
