Lot Description

Percussion Altered US Model 1817 Common Rifle by Deringer
American Civil War

.58 caliber. 36" barrel secured by three flat, spring retained bands. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, full-length walnut stock with oval iron patchbox. Single shot muzzleloading percussion altered rifle with fixed notch rear sight, front sight blade on a low rectangular base, extended finger rest triggerguard tang, sling swivels and a brass tipped, trumpet head ramrod. Lock marked US/DERINGER/PHILADA in three horizontal lines and dated 1823 vertically at the tail. Breech with LS/P/US inspection marks and a weak script LS for Luther Sage cartouche is present on the counterpane. Altered to percussion by the "French" or "Drum Bolster" system with a civilian style percussion hammer. {ANTIQUE}
