Lot Description
1837 Dated US Model 1819 2nd Production Type Hall Flintlock Rifle Rifle
Mexican American War
.52 caliber. 32.625" round barrel secured by three pin-retained flat bands. NSN. Browned finish, color casehardened breech, iron furniture, smooth walnut stock. Single-shot, breechloading flintlock rifle with Hall's patent tilting breech block, fixed notch offset rear sight, offset blade front sight with base serving as the stud for a socket bayonet, sling swivels and a button head cleaning and clearing rod. Top of breech block marked in four lines: J.H. HALL/H. FERRY/US/1837. Action remains unaltered and in original flint. The Hall holds the distinction of being the first firearm to be produced on the principle of interchangeable parts at a US Arsenal. 19,680 Hall Rifles were produced at the Rifle Works at Harpers Ferry in three major production runs, 1819, 1823-24 and 1827-1840. This is fine example of a second production type produced in the third run of manufacturing, prior to the death of John H Hall. {ANTIQUE}
