Single shot muzzleloading flintlock pistol with captive swivel ramrod, fixed notch rear sight and brass blade front sight. The US Model 1836 pistol was made in large quantities between 1837 and 1844 with some 41,000 being produced by two contractors, Robert Johnson and Asa Waters. Johnson produced slightly fewer of the guns at 18,000, with Waters producing the balance of 23,000. It was the last US military flintlock pistol and the standard pistol issued from the Seminole Wars through the Mexican American War. Thousands of the guns saw a second life during the American Civil War altered to percussion {ANTIQUE}
