Lot Description

Near Relic Percussion Converted Springfield Model 1795 Musket with Repaired Wrist

.70 caliber. 43" round barrel. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, walnut stock with three flat, spring retained barrel bands. Single shot percussion altered military musket with drum bolster, brass blade front sight, bell shaped sling swivels and an old iron tulip head ramrod. Percussion converted lock marked US/{SPREAD WINGED EAGLE}/SPRINGFIELD with no date at the tail. No legible proofs on barrel, buttplate date with only the middle two numbers visible, "80" with the "1" and the last number missing. Surviving features suggest a date of circa 1806-1808 would be appropriate for production. No bayonet lug is present on the barrel. Barrel slightly shortened with the upper barrel band missing the band spring. Middle band spring broken. The remains of a woven cotton sling hang from the upper sling swivel. A well worn and hard used percussion altered M1795 musket that would probably have some interesting stories to tell about its life if it could speak.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
