Lot Description

Full Stock Percussion Long Rifle with Four Piece Patchbox by William Lloyd with MM Maslin Lock

.34 caliber. 44" pinned octagonal barrel, nominally 1" across the flats. NSN. Browned finish, brass furniture, faux tiger striped hardwood stock with raised cheekrest. Single shot percussion muzzleloading rifle with double set triggers, fixed notch rear sight, dovetailed blade front sight, four-piece lightly engraved patchbox with release in toe and brass, German silver decorations, replacement wood ramrod. Percussion lock marked MM MASLIN/WARRANTED. Barrel stamped WM LLOYD, probably the maker. Sellers lists "William Lloyd" as working in Snyder County, PA with no addition information. Information attributed to the Kentucky Rifle Association's website lists Lloyd as working in Pittsburgh, PA circa 1831-1847, then Uniontown, PA circa 1846-1848 and South Union Township circa 1851-1854. Michael M Maslin is listed in Stockel as Baltimore retailer and importer who worked during the 1820s and 1830s, so the lock was likely imported and retailed by him. A nice example of a very late "Kentucky" rifle that displays very well.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
