Lot Description
New England Militia Flintlock Musket
.69 caliber. 39" pinned barrel with baluster turned rings at breech. NSN. Bright finish, brass furniture, walnut stock. Single shot flintlock muzzleloading smoothbore dual purpose militia fowler musket with socket bayonet lug on top of barrel 1.25" from muzzle, no sights, three ramrod pipes and a button head steel ramrod. Externally unmarked flint lock with light floral engraving has an integral rounded and fenced, unbridled pan and a flat faceted swan neck cock. Lock remains in original flint and is marked KETLAND on the interior. It has matching mating marks are present on the lock plate, cock and frizzen. Breech marked M/1821 and P/PC. A classic example of a Brown Bess inspired New England dual purpose militia fowler from the early 1820s.
