Lot Description
12 Gauge and .44 Caliber Drilling Rifle in Modern Case
12 Gauge/.44 centerfire. 26.125" barrel length. SN: NSN. 2.625" chamber length. Cylinder chokes. Browned Damascus pattern barrels with buffed bright frame, blued lockplates, and mounting a walnut straight wrist stock with horn finger rest and splinter forend. Side by side Drilling rifle with backlock hammer fired action, the right hammer face pivots down to engage the rifle barrel. No visible maker marks on barrels or locks. Item features a full length matted barrel rib that appears to have been cut and modified to fit a folding notch rear and front bead sights, and a two-piece claw mount scope base. Frame shows a {Crown/V} firing proof mark to the standing breech, while the rifle barrel is further marked with a {Crown/GP}, {Crown/M}, and a {Rampant Lion} proof marking. Aforementioned marks do not quite match the patterns of the London Proof house, suggesting they may have been faked. Frame has no serial number, but the barrels are numbered 14363. Item is missing the wedge pin, leaving the forend loose. Firing pin for right barrel is missing. Comes in a modern production green velvet lined and canvas wrapped case with leather corners and brass combination lockplate. Included in the case are two Unertl style scope rings that lack the claw mounts to fit the barrel, a WOLLENSAK 4 POWER scope, five 12 Gauge brass shells, and an unsigned nickel plated oiler. {ANTIQUE}
