S&W Commercial New Model Russian Revolver (No.3 Russian Third Model)

.44 Russian. 6.5" ribbed barrel. SN: 47226 (mfg. ca. 1874). Blued finish, color casehardened hammer and triggerguard, smooth walnut grips. Single action top break revolver with fluted six-chambered cylinder, finger spur triggerguard, lanyard ring in butt, fixed notch rear sight and modified integral front sight to form a semi-Patridge blade. Top rib of barrel marked in one line: +SMITH & WESSON, SPRINGFIELD, MASS. U.S.A. PAT. July 10, 60. JAN. 17, FEB. 17. JULY 11. 66. & AUG. 24. 69. RUSSIAN MODEL+ Butt with serial number and boxed 1874 date. Left grip with matching serial number stamped on the interior. Left of frame under grip, rear face of cylinder and barrel catch all assembly numbered 9700. A total of 60,638 revolvers of this model were produced by Smith & Wesson circa 1874-1878 with 41,138 going to the Russian military contract, 13,500 US commercial guns and 5,000 and 1,000 going to military contracts for Turkey and Japan, respectively. {ANTIQUE}
