Lot Description

1812/1813 Dated US Springfield Model 1795 Flintlock Musket with Incomplete Lock
War of 1812

.69 caliber. 44.75" barrel. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, full-length walnut musket stock. Single shot smoothbore muzzleloading flintlock musket with barrel secured by three flat, spring retained barrel bands, sling swivels, brass blade front sight and old button head ramrod. Lock marked US/{Spread Winged Eagle}/SPRINGFIELD forward of the cock and dated 1812 at the tail. Lock with integral rounded, fenced and bridled pan is incomplete, missing the sear, with the mainspring removed (present) and with a modern replaced cock, top jaw and top jaw screw. All other parts appear original to the lock. Buttplate tang dated 1813. Breech of barrel marked US and with P/{Eagle Head}/V S inspections. Touchhole appears unmolested, correctly tapered and angled, so the gun may be in "original flint" but simply has an incomplete lock. No inspection marks visible in the wood. A decent example of a War of 1812 period US M1795 Musket worthy of having the lock repaired to put it back into functional condition {ANTIQUE}
