Single shot smoothbore muzzleloading flintlock musket with barrel secured by three flat, spring retained barrel bands, sling swivels, brass blade front sight and old button head ramrod. Lock marked US/{Spread Winged Eagle}/SPRINGFIELD forward of the cock and dated 1812 at the tail. Lock with integral rounded, fenced and bridled pan is incomplete, missing the sear, with the mainspring removed (present) and with a modern replaced cock, top jaw and top jaw screw. All other parts appear original to the lock. Buttplate tang dated 1813. Breech of barrel marked US and with P/{Eagle Head}/V S inspections. Touchhole appears unmolested, correctly tapered and angled, so the gun may be in "original flint" but simply has an incomplete lock. No inspection marks visible in the wood.
