Lot Description

French Model 1882 Saber de Cavalerie Legere

34" straight tapered, single-edged spear point blade, 1.2" wide at the ricasso with a 29.25" unstopped median fuller and a 21.5" narrow fuller at the spine. Overall length 40.125". 6" hilt with brass two-branch guard and knuckle bow and leather covered cord wrapped wood grip with 21 wraps of twisted wire. Flat spine of blade marked in script indicating the sword was made at the Chatellerault Arsenal in February of 1883 and is of the 1882 Saber de Cavalerie Legere pattern. No scabbard is present.
